What is Lock Snapping?

Lock snapping is one of the most common methods burglars use to break into homes with uPVC or composite doors. Standard euro cylinder locks have a weak point in the center. By applying force, a burglar can snap the lock in half and expose the internal mechanism, allowing them to open the door in seconds.

How Do Anti-Snap Locks Work?

Anti-snap locks (also known as snap-safe locks) are specifically designed to combat this threat. They feature a sacrificial snap line near the front of the cylinder.

• Sacrificial Cut: If a burglar attempts to snap the lock, it breaks cleanly along this sacrificial line.
• Mechanism Protected: The central cam and the core mechanism remain fully intact and secure inside the door.
• Key Still Works: Even after the front is snapped off, the homeowner can usually still operate the lock from the inside.

The TS007 3-Star Standard

At Bluesaki Locksmiths, we strongly recommend upgrading all vulnerable uPVC doors to TS007 3-Star BSI Kitemarked cylinders, such as Ultion or ABS. This is the highest level of security rating for euro cylinders in the UK.
